Tradescantia occidentalis, commonly known as Prairie Spiderwort is a herbaceous perennial found all over Texas. It does well in the sun or part shade, in well-drained soils, having low water requirements. It can grow up to 3' tall and has long narrow leaves. The flowers bloom in clusters at the end of the stems, ranging from pink to purple in color, the flowers close up around midday. Blooms from around March to October.
