Pink Evening (Showy) Primrose

Oenothera speciosa, commonly known as Pink Evening Primrose, Showy Evening Primrose, Buttercups, and Pink Ladies. Native to the majority of Texas, it is an upright sprawling perennial that grows 1-2' tall. It has beautiful pink four-petaled flowers that bloom from February to October, but bloom the heaviest in springtime. Hence their name, Evening Primroses open their flowers in the evening, and close them back up in the early morning. They need sun to bloom but work as great ground cover in the shade. They are drought tolerant and will go dormant during the hottest/driest time of the year, but will revive during the rainy season.  The greens can be cooked or used in a salad. They attract many types of pollinators from bees to beetles.
