Chrysactinia mexicana
Damianita is a charming low-growing evergreen shrub that typically reaches up to two feet tall. Its dark green leaves, measuring about 3/8 inches long and 1/16 inches wide, are sprinkled with delightful green to black glandular dots that catch the eye when viewed under a 10x hand lens. This plant boasts a lush display of narrow, fragrant leaves that grace nearly every part, except for the tips. The long peduncles hold solitary yellow flowers, each with a golden hue, featuring eight slender ray flowers on delicate stems that bloom about an inch wide.
Although it's technically classified as a shrub, many love to use Damianita like a flower! This plant is remarkably drought-tolerant and typically showcases its vibrant blooms in spring, along with some sporadic flowering fun throughout the summer. As they mature, you might notice their charming twisted and gnarled appearance emerging, adding character to your garden. When planted in groups, they form a stunning, golden yellow carpet, making them an ideal choice for borders in flower beds or as ground cover for sunny hillsides or exposed areas. For a tidy look, light pruning after blooming is a great tip to shape your Damianita. Just remember, it thrives best in well-drained soil.
